Sofitel Porto

Sofitel announces new Iberian flagship

Luxury Sofitel Porto will open in 2028

Accor and Propreal Capital Partners are bringing a touch of French luxury to the heart of Porto with the announcement of Sofitel Porto, set to open its doors in 2028. This will be the second Sofitel in Portugal—joining the flagship in Lisbon—and marks the duo’s second collaboration after Sofitel Barcelona Skipper.

Smack in the middle of Porto’s historic center, between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina, the hotel will breathe new life into a beautiful protected building. The façade will be lovingly restored, while the interiors—spread across 11,000 square meters—will be reimagined by renowned designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, who was also worked on the recently opened Locke de Santa Joana in Lisbon.

Expect 132 elegant rooms, along with a mix of vibrant and tranquil public spaces, restaurants, bars, event areas, and lush landscaped corners. The vibe? A seamless blend of Portuguese craftsmanship and materials, wrapped in Sofitel’s signature French flair.

This will be Accor’s first luxury offering in Porto, where it already runs hotels under the Novotel, Mercure, and ibis brands. And it’s a big step forward in the group’s bold plans for Portugal.

“This is a key milestone for us,” said Xavier Grange, Sofitel’s Chief Development Officer. “Porto and Lisbon offer two distinct but complementary experiences. We’re thrilled to team up again with Propreal after our success in Barcelona.”

Speaking of Propreal, CEO Yves de Kerdanet shared their excitement: “Porto is booming, and we’ve secured a truly exceptional location. We believe this hotel will set a new benchmark for luxury in the city.”

Foodies, take note: the hotel is planning several dining concepts, with potential collaborations featuring top Portuguese chefs. Accor is leaning into the idea of Sofitel Porto being just as appealing to locals as it is to travelers.

The announcement follows a big year for Sofitel, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2024. With other exciting openings and renovations across Europe—including Dublin and Amsterdam—Sofitel Porto is shaping up to be another standout moment in the brand’s journey.

“Sofitel Porto will be more than a hotel—it will be a bridge between French elegance and Portuguese soul,” said Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems.
