If hotel suites were people, this one would be the effortlessly stylish friend who always looks amazing without even trying — and you secretly want to move into their apartment. Meet the Monforte Royal Suite at The Charles Hotel, Munich, freshly revamped and looking more fabulous than ever.
The creative force behind the magic? None other than Lady Olga Polizzi, the design mastermind behind every Rocco Forte hotel. Olga doesn’t just “decorate” spaces — she builds stories out of them. And this suite? It’s a love letter to heritage, family, and a life well-lived.
First things first: this isn’t just any suite. It’s the biggest of the hotel’s 28 suites and one of only three ultra-exclusive Forte Suites tucked up on the eighth floor. The name “Monforte” is a nod to the Italian village where the Forte family roots run deep — and that sense of history hums quietly in the background as soon as you walk through the door.
Then there’s the view. Step out onto the private terrace and you’ll see Munich spread out before you — a patchwork of rooftops, church spires, and the lush Old Botanical Garden right across the street. It’s the kind of panorama that makes you want to linger over your morning coffee (or maybe a glass of Champagne — no judgment here).
Inside, the suite unfolds like a storybook. Rooms flow into each other through big, beautiful double doors, each space with its own mood but all connected by a certain je ne sais quoi that’s pure Olga. The vibe is Art Deco meets Italian elegance, with warm ochre tones, sculptural shapes, and just the right dose of glamour.
The dining room is the dramatic centrepiece — picture a 1950s wrought-iron table by French design legend Raymond Subes, topped with thick glass and surrounded by plush coral velvet chairs that practically demand a long dinner party. And if cocktail hour is more your speed, the bespoke bar cabinet — black stone, rich wood, antique brass accents — sets the scene perfectly.
Everywhere you look, there’s something thoughtful: artwork that weaves together Munich’s cultural story with the Forte family’s Italian-English heritage, textures that beg to be touched, and details that make the space feel more like a home than a hotel room. That’s Olga’s magic — nothing is generic, nothing feels “designed for Instagram.” It’s chic, yes, but it’s also deeply personal.
And that’s really the secret sauce here. The Monforte Royal Suite isn’t about flashy luxury — it’s about understated opulence, the kind that sneaks up on you and makes you want to stay just a little longer. It’s elegant, comfortable, and completely original — exactly how a “best room in the house” should be.
